Hans Zender Modelle für variable Besetzung (1971-73)

David Fennessy OPEN GROUND (2022)

Described as ‘a curious loudspeaker for music of our times: courageous, uncompromising, energetic’, Ensemble Modern is one of the world’s leading current music groups—performing to the highest level approximately 70 new compositions and multiple world premieres every year.

In this concert for New Music Dublin, composer David Fennessy’s 2022 commission OPEN GROUND receives its Irish premiere in a joyful assertion of togetherness, as the ensemble’s international players are joined by performers from across Ireland. Paired with Hans Zender’s open form Modelle für variable Besetzung (1971-73) – a fascinating musical exploration of the tension between freedom and rigidity – this performance promises to be a highlight of NMD 2023.

Ensemble Modern is funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation, the City of Frankfurt, the German Ensemble Academy, the Hessen State Ministry for Higher Education, Research and the Arts. hr2-kultur is Ensemble Modern’s cultural affairs partner.
