Ailís Ní Ríain and still it breathes… [Irish premiere]
Georges Aperghis Heart Blowing [Irish premiere]
Jessie Marino NO SALT [Irish premiere]
In the second of its two concerts at New Music Dublin, Ensemble Musikfabrik returns with an evening that explores breath, resonance, and radical transformations of sound.
The concert opens with two Irish premieres for brass ensemble. Heart Blowing (2023) by Georges Aperghis is a vivid and theatrical brass quintet in which virtuosity, gesture, and character merge into a single breathing musical body. Ailís Ní Ríain’s and still it breathes… (2025) is a work that takes the physical act of breathing itself as musical material, translating normal and disrupted breathing patterns into sound, voice, and collective utterance.
In the second half, Ensemble Musikfabrik presents Jessie Marino’s NO SALT, recomposed for five strings and electronics. Drawing on Béla Bartók’s Violin Duo No. 23, Marino filters, expands, and distorts its pitch material, creating an intense sonic world shaped by different tones, saturation, and precisely tuned intervals.
