To launch the debut release of three albums (Cryptoqueen, A Good Onion, and Rockpools) from the Irish Composers’ Collective, we are proud to showcase A Good Onion, and Rock Pools in this concert that portrays recent solo and duo works by emerging Irish composers. The broad and eclectic mix of styles and surprises to be found is matched by the diversity of themes addressed in the music; ranging from cycling, cryptocurrency scams, stone-skimming, pandemic claustrophobia, and of course, chopping a nice onion.

Ilse de Ziah will present eleven new works from A Good Onion, jumping from solo works to multi-tracked cello, and interaction with electronics. Several pieces draw on the huge emotional range and colour of the instrument, while others investigate the depth of timbral and percussive effects, and several tracks highlight different relationships between the cello and electronics.

Sarah Watts, and Alex Petcu skilfully traverse six compositions as different as the inhabitants of any low-tide aquarium from the album Rock Pools. Improvised cymbal playing, jazz clarinet, waterphones, and contrabass clarinet multiphonics all find a home in this sonic landscape."
