Last year, during lockdown, six emerging composers were tasked with writing short sketches for brass quintet during the online version of NMD in 2021, all of which were premiered by the RIAM Faculty Brass Quintet. On the back of this, all six composers were paired with a brass band each (from somewhere on the island of Ireland!) and asked to work with them to extend and complete these sketches, ready for performance at NMD 2022. Today is performance day - and all the bands are coming to Dublin!
Here we have six wonderful world premieres, created with the six brass bands, followed by a performance of a new work for massed brass ensemble led by The Wallace Collection brass quintet from Scotland.
The Wallace Collection will be leading the massed ensemble and have been working remotely with the bands online during the last year. Andrew Duncan mentored the 6 composers for their pieces.
